WTHU opened its doors in June 1967, in an unprecedented and historic fashion. It was the last 100-watt AM license issued in America by the FCC, and now WTHU looks forward to celebrating its Golden Anniversary and fifty years serving Thurmont!

Thurmont is the smallest town with its own licensed radio station in Maryland. Recently, in unexpected fashion, the station proved that “you can go back in time,” by reuniting with two of its original 1967 DJs. The DJs, Rocky Birely and Gary Jagow, are local legends who will help plan this summer’s June 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Stay tuned to hear more about this last vestige of community radio in a world of big corporate radio stations….Thurmont’s own: WTHU AM1450. Check out their websitewthu.org or call them if you have any questions or ideas for the celebration at 301-637-6736.
