Scouts BSA Troop 270B and 270G did their annual Trolley Trail cleanup in April. Tires, lots of plastic bags, sheets of rusted metal, washing machine tubs, and more were weeded out and brought to the landfill.

The Trolley Trail is sponsored by the Thurmont Lions Club. If you would like more information on Scouting, check out the website at troop270.com or visit them on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. at 26 Elm Street in Thurmont.

Scouting for Food is an annual food collection, orchestrated by Boy Scouts of America as a community service project since 1985.

Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturers, and Sea Scouts will be placing bags/notes on doors on November 2, to remind people to donate on November 9 (when the Scouts will come by and pick up any donations from your porch). All donations collected stay local and are delivered to the local food banks in the Thurmont, Emmitsburg, and Lewistown areas. The food banks do not accept expired items.

Not sure what you should donate? Here are some of the most highly needed items: non-perishable food items; canned protein (tuna, salmon, chicken, peanut butter); soups and stews (beef stew, chili, meat-based soups); 100% fruit juices (all sizes); grains (pasta, whole grain pasta, rice, brown rice, boxed macaroni & cheese); cereals (multi-grain, cheerios, cornflakes, raisin bran, grape nuts, oatmeal); canned vegetables; canned fruits; condiments; hygiene products (diapers, toilet paper, tissues, soap, toothpaste); baby essentials (wipes, food, diapers); pet foods (cat and dog—canned and dry).

Boy Scout Troop 270; Venturing Crew 270; Cub Scout Pack 270; Girl Scout Troops 81759, 81178, 81200; and Boy Scout Troop 1011 worked together to place flags on graves of Veterans in preparation for Memorial Day.

They also participated in the wreath-laying ceremony on Memorial Day, hosted by The American Legion Post 168 at Memorial Park in Thurmont. The Scouts took turns laying wreaths in memory of our fallen military members in past wars.

On June 14, 2019, the Scouts also participated in a Flag Day flag retirement ceremony at Memorial Park with The American Legion Post 168 and the Town of Thurmont. The Scouts folded flags for retirement and, along with attending members at the ceremony, retired the flags in the proper manner befitting the American flag.
